Enviromental Disaster for the US on the way.

It looks like cheap coal may spell our doom. The US is facing a huge enviromental disaster because burning coal releases green house gasses, and we’re planning on building 159 more coal fired power plants. That’s just lovely, and of course our regulations that would make this energy cleaner by mandating the carbon be buried in the ground again are so weak you could drive a herd of mad cows through the loopholes. Livescience reports that Ernest Moniz, a global warming expert, says the uS has to stop building these plants and bulldoze the ones that don’t take care of the released gasses.
Here’s a local link – windfarming which is coming to our region could solve alot of these problems. A new study shows that all the energy needs of the East Coast could be met by off-shore windfarms that would stretch from Massachusettes to North Carolina, but the big whiners that live on the coast don’t want their views blocked. I suppose they’d rather heat and cool their over-large mansions with coal unti we’re all dead from one enviromental disaster or another. Just ignore me – it’s my rant.
In LiveScience.com, Andrea Thompson points out that the ocean is a better place for wind turbines than the land, because, according to wind expert Willett Kempton, oceans “are particularly windy all over.” In other words, there are no trees or buildings to block the wind, so the turbines are more effective. They have to be put in shallow waters (close to shore) because we don’t yet have the technology to install them in deep water. But if we started building them I bet we’d learn how to park them out past the views these rich goofs value so much.
