For years now I’ve been a fan of self-publishing. There are literally thousands of good authors out there slaving away at keyboards that never have the chance to see any of their work picked up by the big, or even the small, publishing houses. It’s with this in mind that I suggest you fine Strange Readers check out Anti-Christ: A Satirical End of Days by Matthew Moses – what a “prophetic” name for an author who has penned a satirical book about the cold war between Heaven and Hell. Here’s the summary from the publisher.

For the past two millennia, there has been a Cold War between Heaven and Hell. In that time, Earth has served as the neutral zone between the two powers with humanity the pawns in a conflict whose origins remain shrouded in legend. Tonight…that all changes as one mortal disturbs that fragile balance.

Matthew Ford is a common man, struggling through college while attempting to discover his destiny. Anti-social, passive aggressive, and immature beyond belief, this flawed person will set into motion that final prophecy that will lead to the End of Days.

He will travel to Heaven, be tempted by Hell, get into a feud with Jesus, meet the moronic leader of the free world, create a self-help movement that tears the world apart, and lead the final zombie charge on Mount Megiddo in that last conflict of all time, Armageddon.

What can I say? This tome has it all – brawling cherubs, an idiotic President of the United States (where’d he come up with that character, eh?), and zombies. What more could anyone ask for. I’ve never been one to shy away from a story just because it deals with sensitive subjects like religion – specifically religious figures, and this book, while it may offend the zealot crowd out there, is certainly one for free thinkers, or at least lovers of smart-ass humor, to consider. Matthew Moses has a keen and sardonic take on the political climate of not only the real world, but also of the metaphysical one, and it shows in his solid writing style and witty blurbs that intersperse the narrative. Though he does wander a bit, the story moves forward and comes together into a tale that is both cautionary and entertaining. So Strange Readers, do yourself a favor and step out of the glitzy, Starbucks peddling bookstores and pick up something written and published in a small run. Every now and then you’ll find a gem or two and this week’s pick is Anti-Christ: A Satirical End of Days by Matthew Moses. Be sure to order it from Amazon above if the fancy strikes you, and you can check the book’s website at www.anti-christ.biz.
