Bank Tells Woman She’s Dead

In an amazing blunder and then with a pile of red-tape a UK bank informed a woman her savings account was gone because she was dead. Mary Welsby, of Albrighton, Shropshire, was told her Abbey Isa account had been closed. She then battled for nine weeks to get the money back, but only received the apology after the BBC investigated. Read the full story here. Chock this one up to banks being both evil and stupid.

Do you think this would have been such a hassle if the bank had treated her as a person instead of as a number? It seems like these bigger institutions treat customer service in namesake only instead of a valuable business function.
